EMERGE Students Tour Top-Tier Colleges, students fly to schools around the country, spending an entire week learning about different college options

Posted on Updated on

EMERGE is a Houston-based non-profit organization that partners with Houston and Spring Branch ISDs. The mission of EMERGE is to empower & prepare high performing students from underserved communities to attend and graduate from selective colleges & universities across the nation.

Every summer, EMERGE takes more than 300 rising juniors on college tours across the country. The goal is to expose students to different “types” of colleges, from the Ivy Leagues and large research institutions to small liberal arts and women’s colleges. This summer, students visited colleges & universities in and around Boston, Philadelphia, Upstate New York, and New England.

For most of our students, these trips are their first experiences traveling outside the city of Houston. For many, it is also their first time on a flight, and being away from their family. The impact of these tours ultimately reflects in the choices students make when deciding to apply to college. Over the past two years, schools that EMERGE students visit have received six times the number of EMERGE applications than others.
